A physicist with a PhD and a sound knowledge of surface science, semiconductor and vacuum technologies; as well as a strong commercial acumen. He has 20 years’ experience carrying out research and development in thin film deposition systems, computational chemistry, vacuum design and surface characterisation in different countries including, Venezuela, Japan, Germany and the UK. After initially spending 4 years in R&D at BOC Edwards (now Edwards Limited), in 2001 he focused with the same company on business activities ranging from technical sales to business development in the semiconductor and solar sectors. Amongst his commercial achievements with BOC Edwards were the conception, introduction and commercialisation of an integrated system for treating and recycling the exhaust stream in solar thin film production, generating revenue potential in excess of £5M. He has a Physics degree from UCV in Caracas (Venezuela), an MsEng in Electronics from Tohoku University in Sendai (Japan) and a PhD in Applied Physics from Düsseldorf University (Germany).
